CP 3 Bavarian Institution for Forest Seeding and Planting -  Bayerisches Amt für forstliche Saat- und Pflanzenzucht (ASP) Germany

Introduction
The Bavarian Institution for Forest Seeding and Planting (ASP) is a special agency within the Bavarian Forestry Administration, operating in the field of forest reproductive material. The institution combines the practical implementation of law on forest reproductive material (FRM) in Bavaria, provenance and field trials, genetic laboratory research and the conservation of genetic resources in situ and ex situ.

Contribution to the RID (research and innovation development) objectives
ASP will support SFI on forest genetic resources; genetic biodiversity: criteria and indicators. The Bavarian Institution for Forest Seeding and Planting - Bayerisches Amt für forstliche Saat und Pflanzenzucht maintains well-equipped laboratories for the analysis of isozymes and DNA as well as for seed testing. The ASP also focuses on securing the identity of forest reproductive material and provenance recommendations for forest owners, which are both indispensable for sustainable forest management. Suitable facilities for long-term seed storage (Bavarian Forest Gene Bank) exist at the ASP.

Short profile of staff members
Dr. Monika Konnert is head of the Institution and has been working in the field of forest genetics for over 20 years. She is an accredited authority on forest genetics and has published more than 100 scientific papers in national and international journals.
Eva Cremer is a forest scientist working in the field of molecular biology, especially on analysis of isozymes and DNA analyses, and is responsible for operative management in the genetics lab. She is also involved in the application of research results to practical forestry and in the education of forestry students and forestry officers.
Randolf Schirmer is head of the section “field trials, energy forest” and a university-educated forester with long experience in field trials and energy forests. He was involved as a trainer in 2 “twinning-projects” with Bulgaria and Turkey with regard to legal regulations on FRM.
Dr. Barbara Fussi studied biology and has been working in the field of forest genetics for 6 years. Since 1 January 2010 she has been a researcher and head of the genetics laboratory at the Bavarian Institute for Forest Seeding and Planting in Teisendorf.
